The Department We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join the City of Hermosa Beach team on a part-time, temporary basis as a Digital Communications Intern. This position will be a part of the City Manager’s Office which is committed to high quality service to the residents and visitors of Hermosa Beach through the use of strong project management skills, great interpersonal and communication skills, and a commitment to community engagement and collaboration. The Position The Digital Communications Intern provides support on a variety of communications tasks and initiatives led by the City Manager’s Office. The Intern will assist with the scheduling, research, coordination, and preparation of outreach materials, surveys, project updates, graphics, and content for a variety of projects that include the following platforms: E-Newsletter and E-Notify Systems Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, NextDoor, and LinkedIn accounts City Website SpeakUp Hermosa Organizing and maintaining marketing and communication assets including guidelines, logos, contact databases and photo libraries and monitoring and tracking of ongoing effectiveness of the use of these platforms will also be a key duty of this position. Specific tasks and project assignments will be determined based on project needs and alignment of intern interest/expertise. The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will have the following: Ability to accept instruction and evaluation; Self-starter, dependable, diligent, amenable to performing elementary tasks to advance project goals; Ability to complete assignments independently, accurately, and on time; Excellent organizational skills and ability to demonstrate attention to detail; Understanding of marketing methods, tools and processes including brand guidelines and identities, grassroots and/or digital tactics; Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing; Ability to compose, type, and proofread a variety of complex material; Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work on teams; Experience using Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Experience using graphic design software like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite, ArcGIS. Qualifications Current enrollment in an accredited university (proof of completion of 90 quarter units or 60 semester units required) completing studies in an undergraduate or postgraduate program in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Political Science, Graphic Design, Public Administration, or a closely related field; A valid California Class C Driver License; Willingness to work occasional evenings and/or weekends.
