SALARY: $21.45 - $28.74 Hourly OPENING DATE: 07/24/19 CLOSING DATE: 08/11/19 11:59 PM OVERVIEW: The City of Tigard, Oregon invites applications for a Utility Worker II in the Water Division of the Public Works Department. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: In this journey-level position, you will inspect water service for code compliance, repair water mains, install and repair fire hydrants, and operate a variety of equipment including excavators, backhoes, and dump trucks. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Maintenance principles, practices, tools, and materials for maintaining and repairing water distribution systems, including water hydraulics, valves, pipe materials, pump stations, water service components and the operations and minor maintenance of a variety of hand and power tools, vehicles and power equipment; shop arithmetic; computer software related to work. The successful candidate will pass a physical capacities test designed to evaluate ability to perform the essential physical functions of the job. The essential physical functions include Install/repair water lines, install/repair fire hydrants, install/repair service lines, install/replace water meters and general maintenance on water valves and sample stations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skills would be: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade AND two (2) years of experience in construction, repair, operation, and maintenance of underground utilities. Successful candidate will pass a physical capacities test, drug screen and background check after receiving a conditional job offer. License Possession of a valid Class A (CDL) Commercial Oregon driver's license with the appropriate endorsements and satisfactory driving record. Possession of or ability to obtain: Standard First Aid Certificate issued by the American Red Cross and a valid CPR Certification. Preference: Preference will be given to candidates who possess a CDL, Grade I Water Distribution Operator Certification from the State of Oregon, Confined Space Entry Certification, and/or Competent Person Certification. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Union Representation: SEIU Schedule: Generally, working days are Monday through Thursday one week (9-hour days) and Monday through Friday (9-hour days Monday through Thursday and an 8-hour day on Friday) the next week.
