Reviews plans and construction drawings for proper location of valves, hydrants, laterals, manholes, water and sewer lines, and other appurtenances; reviews plans for adherence to adopted engineering specifications such as depth, locations, materials, and construction methods.
Meets with contractors, engineers, owners, project managers and architects and reviews and explains construction requirements.
Inspects construction work in progress and upon completion for quality of work and adherence to approved plans and specifications; checks for proper grade and materials; takes samples of soils and materials and has compaction, density and other test performed.
Oversees chlorination of lines by contractors; collects water samples; oversees pressure testing of water lines.
Locates connection point into system for contractors.
Oversees pressure testing of sewer lines and vacuum testing of sewer manholes.
Completes field inspections of Town-owned projects to enforce local and state laws, ordinances and standards; notifies other departments of construction issues; keeps detailed records of projects.
Maintains log and records work activities and field findings; insures that as-builts are submitted upon completion of project; indicates recommendation for acceptance of new lines and systems; completes chlorination reports.
Answers public inquiries and complaints concerning streets, driveways, storm water, grading and water and sewer projects.
Observes concrete field testing.

The primary purpose of this position is to manage the CALEA accreditation function for the Apex Police Department, as well as similar continuous improvement processes (i.e. NCLM Risk Management Assessment, internal department inspections, etc.). The Accreditation Manager will be tasked with managing the accreditation process for the agency, as well as similar continuous improvement processes, including department inspections and policy review, revision and implementation. The tasks associated with the position will include but are not limited to collecting proofs of compliance, documenting adherence to established standards, assisting with staff inspections, advising on standards updates, and all other duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief of Police, and/or the Chief of Police. This position will allow the department to be better organized and more efficient in providing specialized services as the needs of the department continue to evolve while providing flexibility for the Deputy Chief of Police and the Chief of Police in managing the overall mission and functions of the agency. The Accreditation Manager will report directly to the Professional Standards Unit Sergeant. Normal hiring range is $52,372-$57,746. A starting salary above this range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
Manage the departmental accreditation process as mandated by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA)
Prepare annual reports, attend necessary training, oversee annual CSM reviews, coordinate and oversee mock and full onsite assessments, and attend the full Commission review hearings.
Represent the department at accreditation meetings and training functions
Maintain accreditation compliance documentation to include collecting and uploading proofs of compliance.
Provide training to department personnel on the accreditation process

Water Resources Department and Position Overview: Reporting to the Assistant Town Manager, the Water Resources Director will oversee a department with 70 employees working in four divisions: Infrastructure Inspections, Stormwater and Utility Engineering, Water and Sewer Utility Operations, and Water Reclamation. With a budget of $25.8 million (including a $23.5M enterprise fund for Water and Sewer), the director oversees a department that interfaces with other departments in the Town and has extensive external contact with citizens, business leaders, builders and developers. Qualifications : Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, biology, environmental sciences, or related field and 10 years of breadth and depth in water/sewer utilities and stormwater experience, including a minimum of 5-7 years progressive supervisory experience in utilities management. A valid North Carolina driver's license is required. PE licensure is strongly preferred along with local government familiarity. The salary range is $94,061 to 154,837 with an expected hiring range of $94,061 - 124,449. Beginning salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
