The City of Dayton, Oregon (population 2,704) is seeking its next City Manager. Dayton is an active, charming, and historic community located in the heart of the beautiful Willamette Valley in Yamhill County. The community is family friendly and diverse, valuing the joys of small-town life while navigating exciting new development and other opportunities to grow and strengthen the City’s beloved character.
The ideal candidate should be a dynamic and experienced leader, with strong, well rounded leadership and management abilities to promote a collaborative and visionary organization. A thorough understanding of Council-Manager government roles is important, with desired attributes and skills including: professionalism, neutrality, personability, small team management experience, strong economic development knowledge, strong public finance proficiency, familiarity with public works, excellent communication skills, ability to promote strong intergovernmental relationships, community engagement skills, and public safety planning experience. A willingness to serve as an active, positive representative of and advocate for the City is essential.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
The City Manager position requires a bachelor’s degree in public administration, planning, political science, or related field, and at least three years of upper-level local government management experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The City prefers a candidate with an advanced degree in public administration or related field, and at least five years of increasingly responsible experience. Experience and/or training in public finance, economic development, and public infrastructure management is highly desired.
Compensation is $100,000 to $130,000 (DOQ).
