The Challenge
We are looking for an Administrative Specialist to join our Wayne County Maintenance Office team.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Perform office assistant tasks supporting our administrative, program, and technical operations.
    • Assist with record keeping, reporting, and filing activities.
    • Engage with the public by answering the phone, directing calls to staff, and taking messages.
    • Process payroll, inventory, purchase orders, and accounts payable using our SAP system.
    • Perform personnel and other office duties, such as typing correspondence, and handling incoming/outgoing mail.
 
What You Bring
    • Good verbal and written communication skills to communicate and respond to all inquiries and instructions with tact and in an courteous manner to ensure positive public and employee relations.
    • Knowledge and use of office equipment.
    • Computer skills in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and online databases, such as SAP.
    • Ability to work independently, be resourceful, and can simultaneously schedule/coordinate multiple work tasks.
    • Ability to learn and independently apply laws, NCDOT rules, and regulations in your work in accordance with NCDOT workplace and safety policies.
    • Customer service experience, including resolving customer issues.
    • Experience completing/maintaining records and reports.
    • Experience interpreting/explaining policies, procedures, and laws.
    • Ability to accurately use computer, calculator, copier, fax machine.
    • Ability to maintain and organize records.
 
Education & Experience
    • High school/GED diploma, and
    • 2+ years of related administrative experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
