Are you a North Carolina college student studying in a Historically Black College/University (HBCU)/Minority-Serving Institution (MSI) or recent graduate who is ready to lead?
We are hiring an HBCU fellow to engage with our Municipal and School Transportation Assistance (MSTA) team.
In this role, you will:
- Gain a broad understanding of NCDOT by providing support to enhance our MSTA product used statewide.
- Support MSTA by observing school traffic, work with traffic modeling software, and attend project meetings.
- Create training materials, prepare presentation materials, and execute communications plans.
- Coordinate with and conduct outreach to NCDOT staff to gather technical expertise to support NCDOT.
- Support MSTA program data management.
- Maintain program data in Microsoft Access and Excel.
- Participate in NCDOT activities in the full project delivery lifecycle.
- Conduct occasional field visits, research on transportation industry trends, and other assigned topics.
What You Bring
- Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with engineering, environmental, or transportation industries.
- Comfortable with research and learning new concepts and working within deadlines.
- Interest in public administration and program development.
- We will consider all majors, especially Math, Business, Technology, Science, and other related STEM fields not in engineering.
Education and Experience
- You MUST be currently enrolled or a recent graduate in a bachelors, masters, or professional-level program at a North Carolina Historically Black College/University (HBCU) or Minority Serving Institution (MSI).
