Job Description

The City of Naperville is looking for an accounting professional to perform government accounting and internal audit work; including maintenance of the general ledger, reconciliation of bank accounts and preparation of financial reports.

Duties

Some of the responsibilities will include:

  • Reviews bank accounts for directly deposited funds and ensures that cash receipts are posted appropriately,
  • Prepares monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Reconciles various accounting related software applications to ensure consistent and appropriate recording of financial transactions.
  • Prepares adjusting journal entries, when needed.
  • Performs research and accounting tasks in accordance with GASB standards for leases and subscription-based information technology arrangements.
  • Prepares all necessary work papers for the annual financial audit, coordinates audit activities with the City’s independent auditor, and prepares year-end adjusting journal entries as needed.
  • Reviews City accounting procedures to improve internal controls, assure conformity to policy, and increase effectiveness.
  • Performs special projects assigned by the Finance Director and/or other management personnel.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
  • Three years of experience in a related field 

Preferred:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
  • Government accounting experience
