The Challenge
We're looking for an entry-level Engineering Technician Apprentice to join our team. In this 2-year apprenticeship, you will gain 4,000 hours on on-the-job training, and complete your Associate's degree at a community college in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey/Geomatics Technology, or a related major. Upon completion, you will receive a Journey-worker card issued by the U.S. Department of Labor.
 
This apprenticeship comes with full pay and benefits from day 1, and includes a permanent role upon completion with NCDOT!
 
In this apprenticeship, you will learn how to:
    • Perform technical engineering work supporting senior engineering technicians and engineers in construction inspection, surveying, materials sampling, testing, erosion control, and construction traffic control.
    • Perform a variety of standardized and non-standardized tests and assignments compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data.
    • Perform engineering calculations and computations.
    • Work inside and outside.

    • Ability to communicate with staff to ensure tasks are completed correctly and on time.   
    • Safety toe shoes.
    • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
    • Ability to safely perform manual tasks using a bush axe and other tools on steep and rough terrains.
    • Strength and agility to carry testing equipment over rough and steep terrain.
    • Strength to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
    • Ability to safely work high above the ground, be proficient in record keeping, and use engineering testing equipment.
 
Education & Experience
    • High School/GED Diploma, and
    • Currently studying for an Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey/Geomatics Technology, or a related field.
  
Note
    • You may be exposed to high traffic volumes, work at heights over water or traffic, and may need to climb on bridge substructures and superstructures.
