Hidden Creek Community Center, the City of Hillsboro’s newest Parks & Recreation facility is looking for Inclusion Assistants to join our Adaptive & Inclusive Recreation team! At Hillsboro Parks & Recreation, we empower individuals experiencing disability to participate in activities of their choosing. This includes both having inclusive supports available for participants to enjoy any of our programs & facilities and developing specialized adaptive programming to fill specific recreation interests.

If you have experience working with individuals experiencing disability, the Inclusion Assistant may be the perfect fit for you! This role is looking for motivated, organized, and creative individuals who can provide a variety of inclusive supports to participants in Hillsboro Parks & Recreation programs. Programs will vary and can include all ages and all program types (sports, arts, wellness & fitness, and enrichment programs).

Examples of Essential Work

Inclusion Assistant:

  • Provide support to participants who experience disability to ensure their successful inclusion in programs.
  • Has specialized knowledge of inclusion for participants with disabilities, including attending additional trainings and obtaining certifications, as needed.
  • Work with Adaptive & Inclusive Recreation Supervisor and Inclusion Coordinator to schedule shifts, learn about participants through the inclusion intake process, and prepare tools and resources for participant use.
  • Connect with participants/families/guardians to ensure their needs and goals are met within a program.
  • Maintain communication with Adaptive & Inclusive Recreation Supervisor regarding participant success, needs, incidents, or additional program information.
  • Has high degree of flexibility. Ability to pivot programming as needed for one, some, or all participants at any point throughout the course.
  • Maintain operational daily paperwork and additional forms as needed including accident/incident reports.
  • Work cross-departmentally with Program Supervisors/staff to understand program happenings. General awareness of recreation programming, and ability to work in multiple environments (ex. track club, at Jackson Bottom, preschool classes, in fitness classes).
  • Strong understanding of social/emotional/physical needs of participant and able to prioritize their needs for program success.

Acceptable Experience and Training

  • Some related work experience; or
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Additional Information

Certifications and Requirements

  • CPR/First Aid/AED certified within 6 months of hire

    Positions that are considered safety sensitive, including working with children, may be subject to a drug screen before being hired. The City of Hillsboro is a Drug Free Organization that tests for schedule one drugs which includes marijuana.
