Job Description

The City of Naperville is looking for a self-motivated individual to provide administrative support to the Sustainability Manager in the implementation of Naperville’s Sustainability Workplan.  As the Sustainability Specialist, this individual will administer sustainability incentive and rebate programs, including a suite of incentives for renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable landscape strategies. The Sustainability Specialist will also develop outreach materials, clearly communicating in a way that makes technical information easy to understand, to educate and engage the community via the City’s communications channels, including the City’s Environmental Sustainability webpages and monthly employee and community newsletters.

Duties

•    Supports the Sustainability Manager on the implementation of the Naperville Sustainability Workplan.  
•    Administers the City’s renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable landscape incentive programs.
•    Reports sustainability goals and progress to the community through a semi-annual Sustainability Report.
•    Monitors and drafts updates for the City’s Environmental Sustainability webpages and drafts sustainability-related content for the monthly employee and community newsletters.
•    Calculates, tracks, and manages metrics to support the Naperville Sustainability Workplan initiatives and posts on the Open Data Page on the City’s website as appropriate.
•    Collects data, develops and monitors metrics, and assists in the development of staff and community partner education and engagement initiatives that promote local environmental, energy, economic, and social sustainability.
•    Leads the City’s voluntary annual reporting to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
•    Active member of the Cross-departmental Sustainability Team, Special Events Team, and Design Review Team.
•    Assists the Sustainability Manager in identifying, applying for, and reporting on appropriate funding opportunities and grants.


Qualifications

Required Credentials and Experience:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainable Business, Public Administration/Policy or related field.
•    Minimum of one year of professional experience in the sustainability field.
Preferred Credentials and Experience:
•    Experience reporting sustainability metrics and utilizing voluntary reporting tools (e.g., Carbon Disclosure Project, ICLEI, EPA Portfolio Manager, EPA Greenhouse Gas Inventory tool, U.S. Green Building Council/LEED, Energy Star, etc.).
•    Qualified candidate will have or be willing to pursue sustainability-related professional accreditation(s), including LEED AP/GA, Sustainability Excellence Associate, TRUE Zero Waste Advisor, etc.
