The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Construction Inspector to join team.
In this role, you will:

- Support senior technicians and engineers in construction inspection, surveying, materials sampling and testing, and construction traffic control.
- Perform standardized and non-standardized tests and assignments compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data.
- Supervise junior technicians and contractors.
- Assist in the coordination of work assignments.
- Conduct highway construction surveying and layout.
- Keep diaries on project operations, complete material reports, document pay records, perform construction calculations, and do data entry into a computer/iPad.
- Apply independent decision-making and use good judgement.
- Document and take corrective actions.
- Apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
What You Bring

- Proficiency in recordkeeping.
- Ability to obtain and maintain certifications to perform material sampling and testing.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required.
- Ability to complete daily diaries, survey notes and other recordkeeping items manually and electronically.
- Math skills to perform construction-related math calculations.
- Knowledge and understanding of NCDOT highway and bridge construction.
- Knowledge in understanding contracts, plans, standards, and specifications.
- Experience performing inspections, sampling, and testing of materials (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.
- Computer skills using iPads & desktop computer, HiCams, SharePoint, and math functions.
- Working knowledge of pay record book entries and material received reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive communication between technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public.
- Ability to acquire certifications, including QMS Asphalt, Concrete Testing, and Borrow Pit Sampling.
- Strength to lift 40 to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in high traffic areas, at heights over water or traffic, in extreme temperatures, on uneven terrain, and during nights and weekends, if necessary.
- Safety toe shoes.
Education and Experience
-
- Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related field, and
- 2+ years of relevant technician experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
