The Challenge
We are hiring an entry-level transportation engineer to join our Division 1 Maintenance Operations Engineering Support team.
In this role, you will
- Monitor project schedules and ensure timely delivery of project data and documents.
- Oversee the collection of roadway data.
- Analyze data to generate estimates and plans for Preservation, Resurfacing, and Maintenance projects.
- Make informed and critical decisions regarding pavement conditions, appropriate treatments, and necessary roadway improvements.
- Oversee and assist in performing field surveys using conventional and GPS equipment.
- Conduct drone/UAS flights.
- Process associated drone/UAS data.
- Create and maintain GIS data and applications.
- Draft 2D plans.
- Construct 3D models using CAD software.
- Use computer programs to compute calculations, record, and analyze data, generate engineer’s estimates, and draft plan drawings and maps.
- Provide updates on ongoing and planned work.
- Use collected data and analytics to produce reports, including spreadsheets, maps, and summaries.
- Assist technicians and support engineers.
- Perform project scoping, project inspections, surveying, drainage studies, and data collection.
What You Bring
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve basic engineering problems.
- Knowledge of engineering standards, policies, and procedures related to transportation.
- Customer service experience solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Intermediate computer skills using business software (Microsoft Office) and CAD software.
- Ability to safely operate a State vehicle.
- Ability to perform algebraic and geometric calculations.
- Ability to review and retain information from technical resources, policies, specifications, statutes, etc.
- Ability to assist in severe weather and emergency response operations by collecting route condition data, providing coordination between maintenance and contractor staff, and overseeing contractor operations.
- A strong work ethic.
- Good verbal and written communication skills to maintain working relations with other employees and the public.
- Teamwork skills to establish positive communication between technicians, engineers, and contractors.
- You apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
- Safety toe shoes.
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in engineering; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
Note
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
