The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician II to join our Forsyth County Maintenance team.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Provide technical support to the Forsyth County Maintenance team.
    • Assist in inspections of commercial driveway permits, right-of-way utility encroachments, erosion control, traffic control devices, and roadway construction.
    • Inspect contractor performance, including guardrail repairs, long arm mowing and roadside mowing.
    • Perform routine project inspections to ensure general compliance with plans and specifications and submits required records, reports & diaries within specified time frames.
    • Work inside and outside in extreme environmental conditions and around hazards at highway construction sites, including heavy equipment and highway traffic.
 
What You Bring
    • Experience conducting independent, moderately-complex inspections with limited supervision.
    • Experience independently conducting inspections for compliance with contract agreements and specifications.
    • Experience maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry.
    • Working knowledge and understanding of NCDOT concepts, practices, and theories used in highway maintenance.
    • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office and basic math.
    • Ability to obtain and keep current QMS Asphalt & Concrete Testing Certifications, Roadway Density Certifications, and Erosion Control Certificates Levels II & III.
    • Ability to perform moderate physical activity such as standing, walking, climbing, and kneeling.
    • Ability to effectively communicate in English.
    • Safety toe shoes.
 
Note
    • You will be exposed to extreme conditions such as ice, snow, difficult terrain, dust, extreme heat and cold, high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment.
 
Education & Experience
    • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
    • 2+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
