The Challenge
We're looking for an experienced Engineering Technician to join our Wilmington team.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Process, review, and approve driveway permits, encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions.
    • Perform onsite inspections for compliance to NCDOT specifications for driveway permits, encroachments, and subdivisions.
    • Conduct pre-construction meetings with applicants.
    • Perform field inspections and prepare deficiency letters relating to road additions, driveway permits, and encroachments.
    • Safely operate a motor vehicle.
 
What You Bring
    • Demonstrated proficiency writing clear and concise technical documentation and correspondence that effectively communicates engineering concepts.
    • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction and engineering plans, ensuring accurate application of engineering principles and compliance with standards.
    • Working knowledge of current engineering standards, policies, and procedures related to transportation.
    • Strong background in customer service, adept at resolving issues and explaining moderately-complex engineering concepts to diverse customer groups.
    • Computer skills in Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to read and interpret constructions plans.
    • Communication skills to effectively communicate with engineers, developers, the public, public officials, and NCDOT staff.
    • Ability to review driveway permit and encroachments plans, identify areas that are not in compliance with NCDOT standards, and respond to the applicant with a list of deficiencies.
    • Excellent organizational and time-management skills to ensure permits, agreements, and projects are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Ability to write memos and reports that clearly convey technical information and engineering concepts.
    • Safety toe shoes.  
 
Education & Experience
    • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum, and
    • 2+ years of progressive technician-level experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
