DESCRIPTION
Would you prefer to spend your summer learning and performing meaningful civil engineering work for a dynamic organization? The City of Naperville’s Transportation, Engineering & Development department (TED) seeks Civil/Structural Engineering Interns for full-time summer employment for the 2021 season. Duties include both office and field work (in all weather conditions). Full-time work hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Term of employment is for approximately 13 - 14 weeks, from approximately mid-May through mid-August.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
You will assist the department in managing City MIP (maintenance improvement) and CIP (capital improvement) programs. Working with both the inspection and engineering teams, you’ll be involved in projects related to road construction and maintenance, site infrastructure installation, residential and commercial building inspection, plan review and design engineering. You will monitor City contractors, take measurements of their completed work for payment, and help assemble contract quantities for future projects. Interns may also assist in survey and layout of construction projects utilizing GIS and CADD software applications.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a civil engineering or construction management degree program to be considered.
Training is provided, but candidates should possess a basic understanding of engineering concepts and materials (including concrete and asphalt). You must have strong oral and written communication skills; and experience with Word & Excel. Experience with CADD and GIS a definite plus.
Must bring energy and be self-motivated. This is an excellent opportunity to learn and work for a progressive organization.
