The City's Bureau of Development Services (BDS) promotes community safety, livability, and economic vitality through the implementation of the zoning code and regulation of the built environment. We are currently seeking a Public Information Officer (PIO) to communicate this critically important work. The PIO is a key member of our collaborative communications team who supports communications strategy, content development and editing, media relations, social media, and creative story-telling. This position will join the Communications Manager as the bureau's primary spokespersons and will develop and implement a variety of communications programs and initiatives that support and promote BDS programs, policies, and projects.
As the PIO you will assist the Communications Manager and team to support the strategic communications needs of the 425-person organization; manage the bureau's response to media inquiries; identify, develop, and execute proactive and strategic media and outreach opportunities for bureau efforts; write, edit and prepare content for a variety of print and online informational outlets; manage all aspects of the bureau's social media program; and serve on the City's and bureau's PIO and emergency response teams, among other duties. You will interact with and present information to internal and external stakeholders including BDS customers, City staff, senior management, elected officials, community groups, neighborhoods, and business organizations. You will manage a wide variety of concurrent projects with conflicting priorities and multiple deadlines. A valid driver's license will be required for certain assignments.
