The Management Fellow is a vital part of Durham County Strategic Initiatives, a three-person internal consulting team based in the County Manager’s Office. This is a one-year fellowship (July 2021 – June 2022) with the option to extend to a second year, if mutually agreed upon. This position is typically held by a recent masters graduate in Public Administration, Public Policy or a similar program. This position, previously known as the “ICMA Fellow,” was in the past a 50/50 position between the City of Durham and Durham County and is now a full-time County position. However, this County Management Fellow will continue to partner with the City of Durham’s fellow on a variety of initiatives, including leading the City/County employee innovation forum IdeaLab and managing the Innovate Durham partnership. The Management Fellow also will work on innovation consulting activities with Strategic Initiatives and will continue to have multiple opportunities to work with Durham County leadership on projects and research. This position offers excellent opportunities to jump into local government innovation work directly from grad school.
