Job Description

The City of Lenexa Parks and Recreation department is currently accepting applications for a Building Services Crew Leader who has custodial experience, including floor care maintenance and leadership skills to join our team.

Hours: Monday – Friday, 3:30pm – 12:00am and occasional weekends.

Position Summary

This position performs, leads and directs full- and part-time custodians in, cleaning and sanitizing of buildings, offices, break rooms, fitness spaces, furnishings, and building entrances and exterior walkways of assigned facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Works in close collaboration with the supervisor on contracts, staffing schedules, ordering equipment, and cleaning projects at City Hall, Municipal Services, Public Market, Lenexa Community Center, Lenexa Rec Center, Fire Station #3 and Thompson Barn.
  • Assists participants with special events, rentals, and programs at a variety of City facilities and parks. Sets up for meetings, recreational activities, birthday parties, and City events scheduled at several City buildings.
  • Sweeps and mops floors; dusts and cleans offices, meeting rooms and other work areas; strips, waxes, and polishes floors; shampoos carpets.
  • Operates the following equipment: Propane/electric buffers, Grout Hog, Kaivac, and auto scrubbers (walk-behind and ride-on).
  • Keeps detailed records about facility maintenance, preventive maintenance repairs, and inventory purchases.
  • Operates City vehicles to transport equipment and supplies to various facilities and events.
  • Cleans sidewalks and removes snow and ice; removes debris and other litter from building grounds.
  • Must be available to be on call as needed with overtime, weekend, and holidays work required.

Additional Examples of Work Performed.

  • Moves and lifts heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment.

Qualifications

Minimum: High school diploma or GED and a valid Class C driver’s license. Must possess or obtain First Aid & CPR certifications.

Desired: Five years of related experience with at least three years in a supervisory capacity.

Environment and Physical Factors

This is medium to heavy physical work requiring:

  • Ability to stand and walk (90%)
  • Lifting between 20-50 lbs. (40%),
  • Working in cramped or confined spaces (10%)
  • Sitting (10%)
  • Ability and strength to push and pull objects (40%);
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions as needed
  • Ability to communicate to give/receive information
  • Hear warning alarms, radio transmissions, etc.
  • Ability to work safely in hazardous situations
  • Occasional pushing/pulling equipment over 100 lbs.
  • Crawls, stoops, bends, climbs, twists and maintains balance as needed

Compensation and Benefits

Hiring range is $16.85 to $20.60 per hour dependent on qualifications and directly related experience.
