Who We Seek
An experienced, creative individual to help us develop and implement an organization-wide data collection, analysis, management, and sharing strategy to serve the needs of local governments in the Triangle region. The candidate must have a positive, customer-focused orientation, be able to deliver high-quality products in a timely manner and have an ability to collaborate with both internal organization staff and external local government members. We seek someone who has both the vision to help develop our organizational data strategy and the practical knowledge to implement the strategy.
Description of Work
The Data Strategy Coordinator is part of a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary organization engaged in long-term, regional-scale issues and shorter-term local government member technical assistance that integrates TJCOG’s focus areas of water resources, resiliency, transportation and mobility, housing, aging and human services, member engagement, technical assistance, strategy/innovation, and data. The position will use technology and data to inform regional decision makers and support the activities of TJCOG. The position provides technical expertise to staff and stakeholders through services such as data collection and analysis, database development and management, administration of data-related programs and committees, and use of tools and applications to share data with internal and external users.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The data strategy coordinator must have thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of quantitative and qualitative data analysis, including knowledge and familiarity working with large and varied datasets from multiple sources and knowledge of the principles of geographic information systems (GIS) including the use of ESRI ArcGIS products and ArcGIS Online. The position requires knowledge of: the principles of database design and website development; use of common programs such as Microsoft Office, Teams, and Adobe; relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations; and regional issues, plans, and programs. The data strategy coordinator must be able to develop strategic short- and long-term implementation plans, communicate effectively in oral and written forms, and establish and maintain effective working relationships. Independent judgment and initiative, with limited supervision, and independent project management is required in the performance of duties. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license is required.
Education and Experience
Required: A bachelor’s degree in data science, quantitative social sciences, planning, geography, statistics, or related field is required, with considerable related experience; or a master’s degree in one of these fields and some related experience.
Starting Salary & Benefits
Hiring range: $53,086 to $55,740
