The City of Hood River, Oregon (population 8,565) is recruiting its next City Manager. This position provides a unique opportunity for an experienced manager to help guide this growing and diverse community. Located in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area just 30 miles north of Mount Hood, Hood River offers the amenities of small-town living, a family-oriented environment, numerous outdoor recreational opportunities, as well as easy access to the Portland metropolitan area.
The City seeks a City Manager with strong management and leadership skills who is proficient in all aspects of municipal government management. Experience in long-term community planning, citizen engagement, as well as policy and operational approaches that cultivate greater racial and social equity is highly desired. Strong skills and experience in public finance and public infrastructure (planning, maintenance, construction, and funding) are essential.
As the administrative head of the City serving at the pleasure of the City Council, the City Manager supervises 70.1 full-time equivalent employees and oversees an annual budget of approximately $54 million. Compensation is $130,000 – 160,000 (DOQ), plus excellent benefits.
A bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Planning, Political Science, or a related field, and at least five (5) years of upper-level local government management experience is required. An advanced degree in Public Administration or a related field, and at least ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience. Experience and/or training in housing policy, community engagement, public infrastructure management, and union relations is desired.
