What's the role?

We’re looking for a highly analytical, financially skilled, and multi-tasking individual who can work in a fast-paced environment and pay attention to detail and accuracy to take on the role of Financial Analyst I/II. Here is an exciting opportunity for a highly qualified professional to join a great organization and make valuable contributions to the Finance and Administrative Services Department (FASD).  This position will support the City-wide budgeting and forecasting process and assists management on special projects, administrative studies, and a variety of analyses. The position may be filled at the Financial Analyst I or II level, depending on the qualifications of the individual.  The Financial Analyst I/II position receives immediate supervision from management or professional staff and may receive technical and functional supervision from a Senior Financial Analyst. The Essentials

Financial Analyst I

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, economics, or a related field.  

  OR

  • Associate of arts degree with coursework in business, finance, or accounting and two years of full-time experience at the Administrative Aide level with the City of Mountain View.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver License.

Financial Analyst II

  • Two years of full-time analytical experience equivalent to the position of Financial Analyst I or Analyst I with the City of Mountain View.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, business administration, economics, or a closely related field.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver License.

Bonus Points

  • Experience or training in budgeting, forecasting, complex financial analysis, and/or governmental accounting.
  • Prior experience in a public agency or close interaction with public agencies.
  • A master’s degree in business or public administration or Certified Public Accountant is highly desirable.

What You'll Do

  • Participate as a team member in the development, coordination, and monitoring of the City’s budget and forecast; analyze costs; assist in preparing a variety of fiscal, administrative, and management reports.
  • Work with the City’s financial system to prepare accounting journal entries and budget adjustment entries as well as budget data entry.
  • Update and prepare complex Excel spreadsheets and reconcile data for accuracy.
  • Perform research and statistical analyses; compile and analyze data, prepare summary reports.
  • Work with staff from all departments to provide information and assist with financial data and analysis.
  • Conduct special projects, as requested.
