The Position

Police officers require the ability to learn a considerable amount of factual material such as laws, statutes, regulations, ordinances and procedures, understand sometimes complex oral and written instructions, act effectively and calmly in emergency situations, operate assigned equipment skillfully and safely, prepare clear, concise yet comprehensive reports, analyze situations quickly and objectively, work effectively with the public, other agencies, and other employees.

In September 2020, the Beaverton Police Department moved into a brand new facility in the Public Safety Center located at 6125 SW Hall Blvd.  The building is a three story, 72,000+ square foot building designed to accommodate departmental growth to the year 2050. Come grow and develop with us!

The Selection Process: 
A written exam and physical agility test may be given to qualified applicants (tentatively scheduled for October 2 and October 3). Oral boards will be scheduled for eligible applicants as needed.  Final applicants will be required to pass a rigorous background examination, and any job offer will be contingent upon passing a medical exam, drug screen, and psychological evaluation.
 

 *This recruitment is open to lateral police officers only.* 

To be considered a lateral applicant you must meet all of the following minimum qualifications:

  • Have completed a state certified police academy
  • Passed a probationary period of not less than one (1) year with a law enforcement agency as a full-time sworn officer
  • Have been employed as a full-time sworn police officer within the last five (5) years
  • Have at least a High School Diploma or G.E.D
  • Meet moral fitness and criminal record requirements for certification as a police officer in the State of Oregon
  • Must be a US citizen within 18 months of hire or a nonimmigrant legally admitted to the United States under a Compact of Free Association
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to meet the city's driving standards

Additional Minimum Qualifications 

  • Ability to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays 
  • Ability to pass written exam, physical agility test and run a mile under nine minutes (if applicable)
  • Ability to pass background and reference check, drug screen, medical and psychological evaluation, if needed
