Brown Deer, Wisconsin is seeking a proven and experienced leader to serve as its next Village Manager. Located in the Milwaukee metro area, Brown Deer is a vibrant community with a proud history and exciting future. The Village is a North Shore community comprising 4.5 square miles in northern Milwaukee County. Brown Deer is proud of its diversity and seeks to recruit an individual who will enhance the diversity and effectiveness of its organization. The Village is a short drive from downtown Milwaukee and within two hours of the City of Chicago.

The Village Manager is appointed by the Board to serve as the Village's chief executive officer. The Village Manager also serves as the head of the administrative branch of the Village and is responsible to the seven-member Village Board for the proper administration of its affairs. The Village provides full municipal services which include public safety, street maintenance, sanitation, parks and recreation, forestry, planning, zoning, assessing, building inspections, municipal court, library, financial management, and general administrative services. The Village is a wholesale water customer of the City of Milwaukee and participates in a regional sewage treatment district (Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District). The Village continues to be a leader in participating with other communities in shared municipal services including fire protection, dispatch, municipal court, and public health.

A $10.5M general fund expense budget supports a workforce of 89 full-time equivalent positions.

The salary range for the position is $120,000-$145,000 with excellent benefits.

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Public or Business Administration or related field; prefer a Master’s degree with at least five years of progressively responsible administrative and leadership experience in a County or municipal organization(s). ICMA-CM certification a plus. Desire a strong background in budget development/long term-financial planning, capital improvement planning and economic development, including commercial development and redevelopment.  The successful candidate should be a team builder, possess open and positive communication skills and have a collaborative leadership style.  Integrity and a strong work ethic are essential.
