The City of Baytown is searching for a Community Engagement Specialist to represent the Community Engagement team at neighborhood and community events and programs. This position will support the Library’s Community Engagement Division in developing opportunities for individuals and neighborhoods to engage in civic life.  They will be instrumental in growing volunteer opportunities, neighborhood associations and pathways of engagement (both in-person and virtual).  The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about service, excited about connecting with people from different backgrounds and able to work and solve problems independently.

Duties

  • Work with community partners to create pathways to volunteerism. Manage volunteer recruitment and the Volunteer Connect system.
  • Work with neighborhood and civic groups to create programs and initiatives to improve residents’ quality of life.
  • Assist with the management and administration of Neighborhood Empowerment Grants
  • Represent the Community Engagement Team at community events to promote Community Engagement Initiatives.
  • Create avenues for community to provide feedback on City initiatives.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

REQUIRED:

  1. Associate’s Degree or related combination of education and experience.
  2. One (1) year of Experience in a Community Development, Non-profit Community Service, Community Outreach, Volunteer Management or related community focused program, or related field.
  3. Valid Driver’s License
  4. Equivalent combination of education, experience, certificates and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job can be substituted in applicable areas.

 
PREFERRED:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree
  2. Bilingual
  3. Municipal experience
  4. Experience with Graphic Design Programs
