Job Description

The City of College Station is a dynamic, growing community of 125,000+ that is seeking an experienced Public Relations professional to join our accredited Police Department to tell our story in a variety of ways!  Under general direction of the Administrative Lieutenant, the Public Relations Coordinator works closely with departmental subject matter experts in the Police Department and the City’s Public Communications department to coordinate public relations and act as one of the primary public relations and marketing liaisons for the department.  The Public Relations Coordinator performs a variety of administrative duties to support the department’s public communication efforts, including but not limited to, disseminating news and information to the general public, city employees and the media regarding departmental programs, planning and coordinating community events, producing social media content, and performing other community-related activities.

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications: 

Required:     
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field and three (3) years of experience directly related to area of assignment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Class C Texas Driver’s License. Knowledge of communication principles, media, and public relations techniques. Knowledge and use of photographic equipment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Detail oriented and strong organizational skills. Experience with Microsoft products and social media platforms. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Ability to collaborate and foster positive coalitions with community, professional groups, and organizations. Willingness and ability to work outside of regular business hours, as required. 
Preferred:    
Familiarity with basic graphic design and/or video editing principles and web design a plus.
