The position of Plans Examiner 2 is within the Building Division of the Community Development Department The Building Division is made up of 19 staff and is responsible for reviewing plans, issuing building, plumbing, heating / cooling, and electrical permits and conducting inspections under these permits. This also includes coordinating with other Divisions and Departments as necessary to ensure all procedures are followed. 

About the Position: 
The next Plans Examiner 2 will review construction plans for commercial, industrial, multi-family and residential buildings for compliance with all codes, regulations, rules, laws, and ordinances. The incumbent will approve or deny plans and attend predesign and plan review meetings with developers and contractors. The person in this role will have knowledge of safety standards and work procedures related to building inspection and skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Close collaboration with planning and site development divisions will be required. 
This is a non-exempt, Management-3 position. There is one vacancy.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Associate degree in building inspection technology or related field 
  • Four years progressively responsible experience in plans examination
  • Equivalent combinations of education and/or experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job will be considered. 
  • Ability to pass reference checks and satisfy the requirements of a background check.

Licensing and Special Requirements:
License and certifications are required at time of hire unless otherwise noted. 

  • Valid driver's license and the ability to meet the city's driving standards
  • State of Oregon A-level Plans Examiner or ICC Building Plans Examiner certification
  • State of Oregon Fire Life Safety Plans Examiner or ICC Fire Plans Examiner certification required within six months of hire
  • State of Oregon 1 & 2 Family Dwelling Plans Examiner or ICC Residential Building Inspector certification
  • State of Oregon A-level Mechanical Inspector or ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector certification
  • Oregon Inspector certification
