This position works as a team member of Finance Division and will be the primary staff person to provide all Oregon PERS (Public Employees Retirement System) requirements for the City including sending files each pay period, performing reconciliations, audits, processing IAP voluntary contributions, and evaluating PERS legislation and the impact on payroll processes. This position will also support the payroll team by performing subject salary analysis, assisting with retroactive payments and other payroll processes as needed. This position may also assist the Financial Reporting team during the audit cycle as necessary.
The PERS/Payroll accountant will be a skilled technician with strong communication skills (oral and written), excellent planning and organizational skills, technical knowledge of accounting principles and practices and the ability to work in a team environment. They will have experience working on complex tasks under tight deadlines and should be able to work independently with minimal guidance from the supervisor. Experience working with PERS processes and payroll functions is desirable but is not required. Existing staff will provide training on the systems and processes for this job.

Must reside in the state of Oregon and be able to report onsite for work as needed in Eugene, OR to meet business needs. A hybrid work schedule (home/in office) is available for this position and can be negotiated at hire.
