The Florence Police Department is a team of dedicated professionals and volunteers from the community we serve whose commitment to excellence is reflected in everything we do.


The City is looking for a full-time Communications Officer, which starts at $21.54/hr. (plus a 2% increase if you have an Associate’s Degree or a 4% increase for a Bachelor’s Degree). This a 40 hour per week position that comes with employer paid medical premiums, health savings account, and is part of the Public Employee Retirement System (see the benefits tab for more information). This position has an established career track within the City that can provide the individuals with long-term purpose within the organization.

Summary
The City of Florence’s Police Department is seeking a full-time (40 hours per week, schedule is shift work on rotation) Communications Officer who will be an exceptional addition to our team. The Communications Officer must receive and give critical information accurately and quickly, while simultaneously dispatch and track multiple officers and agencies, and maintain records. Additionally, they must be able to switch gears mid-task and interact with customers and other staff in a courteous and professional manner.

The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail and sets a high-quality bar. This person can handle stressful situations and keep track of multiple tasks, while obtaining and giving information or instructions.

What to bring with you

  1. 1+ years of verifiable experience working in an fast-paced and high-pressure public contact environment (somewhere that includes clerical computer entry and multi-line phone experience)
  2. High school diploma or equivalent
  3. Eligibility to obtain Criminal Justice Information System clearance and pass a background/criminal history check
  4. Knowledge of customer service techniques
  5. Skills in communication, time management, and in using technology
  6. Ability to attend DPSST Communications Officer Academy and obtain necessary trainings
