The mission of the Public Works Department is to operate, maintain and improve the City of San Mateo’s infrastructure. The Public Works Department is comprised of the Engineering and Facilities Services Divisions, and the Environmental Services Division. Each division is led by a Deputy Director reporting to the Director of Public Works. The Department is responsible for the City’s capital projects and infrastructure including streets, streetlights, traffic signals, publicly owned parking lots and garages, sewer and storm conveyance systems, wastewater treatment plant, pump stations, a lagoon, dams and levees.
The Public Works Department is committed to high performance levels and standards, utilizing best practices relative to performance management and team-oriented approaches. Each manager and supervisor is responsible for ensuring the best possible performance of each employee and the accomplishment of the Department’s collective goals and work plans. The Engineering Technician vacancy we currently have is in the Private Development, Permitting and Right-of-Way group. While the technician may perform other duties as assigned, including supporting the Capital Improvement Program, the primary role will be plan checking for private development and right-of-way permits in the City.

What You'll Do
The Engineering Technician I/II performs a variety of technical drafting, office and field engineering work. The position receives immediate supervision from higher engineering personnel.
The Engineering Technician I/II position is flexibly staffed based on experience and may be filled at either level.

Salary: Engineering Technician I - $5,796 - $6,914/month; Engineering Technician II - $6,375 - $7,604/month
