Job Description

  • Provides primary staff support to the Historic District Commission, including agenda and
    minute preparation, distribution, and records maintenance as required by NC General
    Statutes; updates advisory board webpages; recruits appointed board member, and
    performs grant management.
  • Serves as the code enforcement officer with nuisance and zoning code issues, with
    administrative support from the Plan Technician.
  • Serves as a secondary point of contact for telephone and walk-in customers to answer
    questions regarding zoning, rezoning, permitted uses, and architectural requirements.
  • Reviews various permit applications for completeness, including checking property file
    history, and approves those in compliance with the ordinance and requirements.
  • Issues zoning compliance letters.
  • Assigns addresses or revises addresses as needed and consistent with town policies.
  • Performs detailed and complex review of site plans, subdivisions, and construction
    drawings for compliance with development regulations.
  • Presents to and/or provides secondary staff support for Board of Adjustment and Planning
    Board, as needed.
  • Interacts and communicates with town staff, advisory board members, Orange County
    staff, and the general public, including inquiries from various real estate and development
  • Coordinates and participates in community outreach activities.
  • Processes and prepares annexation requests.
  • Processes and prepares requests for text amendments to the zoning ordinance, as
  • Provides research and reports for various parties.
  • Assists in the development and review of new ordinances and codes.
  • Handles special projects, including Hazard Mitigation Plan updates.
  • Provides detailed maps using GIS.
  • Performs other related duties as required

Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience required. Local government advisory board management experience and experience with architecture and historic preservation preferred.
