Job Description

Clackamas County is looking for a highly-skilled, dynamic, and passionate professional to join us as our first County Equity & Inclusion Officer (CEIO). The chosen candidate will champion the county's diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and support county-wide aims to improve cultural competence. The CEIO will launch the Office of Equity and Inclusion. This new office will help Clackamas County build its capacity and ability to deliver equitable outcomes through the county’s programs, budgets, decision-making, and service delivery.

To serve the changing faces of the people who live and work in Clackamas County, the CEIO will lead the county to better understand the lived experiences of all people, guide us in reducing the barriers to access county services and employment and to facilitate a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone.  The County Equity & Inclusion Officer will be responsible for developing, supporting, implementing and evaluating county-wide diversity and inclusion programs and activities for over 2,000 county staff and the overall community. This will involve the development of a strategic plan to advance workplace equity at the county and to build external relationships with those partners who can help us better understand the experiences of our residents.

The CEIO is responsible for ensuring the county’s core value of equity, diversity, and inclusion is embedded throughout all aspects of the county. The Office of Equity and Inclusion supports all county staff in the continuous effort to maintain an inclusive environment. The CEIO will ensure, in consultation with county executives, that the integration of EDI efforts across the county is done with the collaboration of the county’s employees and partners to create shared EDI responsibility.

The top priority for our new CEIO will be to focus internally and ensure employees are committed, trained, and ready to be responsive to all people in the community. By focusing deeply on increasing the understanding of those we serve, the CEIO will contribute to identifying and eliminating the underlying drivers within the county that perpetuate inequity and, ultimately, provide opportunity and advancement for all. The selected candidate will ensure that Clackamas County’s approach is truly integrated across our county because it is central to the success of all of our residents and it is in line with our mission and our SPIRIT values.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate a passion for equity, diversity, and inclusion with a history of excellent judgment under pressure. We are looking for someone who can successfully present the county’s message in front of a diverse array of audiences and can advance the EDI work of Clackamas County. The ideal candidate will be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management and staff, elected officials, and the community to best represent Clackamas County.

Clackamas County is actively recruiting persons from diverse backgrounds to enhance service delivery to our diverse community. Our commitment to exceptional customer service relies upon a team-oriented workplace and a continuous quality improvement environment.

This position will remain open until filled.  The first application review will be Wednesday, March 11, 2020.  We reserve the right to close this recruitment at any time on or after that date.
