MAPC, the regional planning agency for Metro Boston, seeks a new Digital Services Manager to lead the creation of online data tools, digital applications, and digital equity plans to support effective, efficient, and equitable governance in Metro Boston. This role supervises a team of web developers and a civic technologist working in a public agency with planners, data analysts, designers, and community engagement specialists. This position oversees all stages of product development, deployment, and user engagement for those tools. This includes working with other members of the Data Services Department, fellow MAPC staffers, and external clients and stakeholders to identify user needs, formulate development roadmaps, manage production, and coordinate maintenance of digital tools. The Digital Services Manager will also guide creation of digital equity plans for the region’s communities and implementation of those plans through infrastructure investments and community-based programs. This individual will also help to advise MAPC’s policy positions and advocacy regarding funding, data policies, and public sector technology procurement. We are searching for an innovative, mission-driven individual committed to a more sustainable and equitable region. This is not primarily a technical role; that is, the manager will not be expected to perform technical programming tasks on a daily basis. However, the role requires an understanding of fundamental web technologies and strategies for effectively delivering digital products. The ideal candidate will also have a strong understanding of the planning and policy context in which this work takes place, and the local, regional and state decisions that our work seeks to influence.
