The Deschutes County Administrative Office serves as a liaison between the Board and county departments, interpreting Board goals and policies and providing executive direction to departments.

ABOUT THE JOB

Our new Strategic Initiatives Manager will have the unique opportunity to lead cross-programmatic initiatives and provide direct support to the Board of County Commissioners and County Administration on complex, sensitive, important and wide-ranging special programs and projects.

The position requires the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and partners, provide leadership on and management of multiple concurrent projects and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
 
The Strategic Initiatives Manager will serve as County Administration’s representative and liaison assigned to committees or constituency groups. 
 
In this role, you’ll research, analyze, and present reports and recommendations on a broad range of topics for committees and the Board of County Commissioners. You’ll also create strategies for addressing current issues with a focus on future community and Board priorities. This position may frequently need to work outside of normal business hours to staff and facilitate group or committee meetings.


This position is located in Deschutes County and may be eligible for hybrid of in-office/remote work as allowed by policy and approved by the supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:  

Provide support for special projects, Board priorities and other strategic initiatives.

A sample of current projects includes:

  • Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE).
  • Joint Office on Homelessness.
  • Camping Feasibility Study.
  • Cannabis Advisory Panel.
  • Drought Funding / Community Water Needs.  

What You Will Bring: 

 Knowledge of or experience with:

  • Project management principles, including strategic planning.
  • Legislative process and an understanding of County priorities.
  • Federal, state, and municipal codes, ordinances, regulations, practices and procedures related to the work.

Skill in:

  • Collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Communicating effectively while using data to shape strategy.
  • Managing multiple projects, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines.
