Full time Community Development Planning

Job Description

Are you an experienced project manager who loves planning and is excited by an opportunity to explore creative ways to provide infrastructure. Beaverton has a cutting-edge community vision and solid plans for how to grow the city. We’re looking for someone with the technical know-how and project management experience to make those plans a reality.

And we have a great first project in mind!

The City of Beaverton is hiring a Project Manager for Infrastructure Implementation to lead essential infrastructure planning and design for new neighborhoods in the Cooper Mountain area. This area includes the innovative and exciting McKernan Creek greenway: an important corridor that will include a sewer trunk line, an innovative resilient stream corridor and traditional stormwater solutions, trails, open space, and streets. The greenway will also be a signature feature of this growth area as its trails and open spaces run along McKernan Creek with views of Cooper Mountain Nature Park to the north and the Tualatin Valley River valley and Chehalem Mountains to the southwest.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to guide a project that provides realistic designs for the city’s ideas; identifies appropriate engineering solutions; coalesces the expertise and investments of Beaverton’s partner service providers; cooperates with other city departments; and works closely with property owners and developers to prepare for Cooper Mountain development.

The end result? New neighborhoods in this 1,200-acre area that is expected to have more than 3,800 new homes and an emphasis on natural resource protection and equity.

While Cooper Mountain will be the focus initially, the position will have many opportunities to work on a variety of city implementation efforts in the future.

If you're energized by the opportunity to be a big picture thinker while solving practical problems, we'd like to meet you! Please apply by submitting your work history and answers to supplemental questions through our application portal. No cover letter or resume required!

This position is open until filled.
First review of applications will be the week of August 8.
First round of interviews will be the week of August 22.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, landscape architecture, urban planning, architecture or a related field; and
  • 8 years of experience including at least 6 years of progressively responsible project management experience involving direction or coordination of consultants and contractors; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the candidate to perform the essential functions of the position.

The City of Beaverton is committed to supporting a culture of accountability, equity and inclusion for all, especially marginalized groups. We pledge to continue the ongoing, difficult, and essential work needed to address institutional racism and historical inequities in all forms.

Beaverton is a diverse city, boasting a large population of qualified persons, including women, veterans, Black, Indigenous and people of color, persons with disabilities, generational groups, persons who speak many languages and are of diverse national origins.

It is widely stated—and supported by studies—that candidates, especially women, are less likely to apply for a job unless they believe they meet 100% of the hiring criteria. The city’s talent acquisition goals include hiring the candidate who is best able to meet the performance objectives of the role. We therefore encourage persons with non-traditional skill sets and experiences to apply, even if you believe you do not meet 100% of the qualifications and hiring criteria described.
