For about 4,200 residents of the only city on Mustang Island, though, Port Aransas is home. The City operates under a council-manager form of government in which a seven-member City Council sets vision and policy, and a professional city manager handles daily operations. The Port Aransas staff numbers 142.25 full-time-equivalent positions this fiscal year, which includes seasonal part-time workers like pool and beach lifeguards, and those working for the Parks & Recreation department’s after-school and summer camp programs.
A direct report of the City Manager, the Assistant City Manager/Long Range Planner is responsible for developing, coordinating, preparing, and designing significant administrative projects, including long-range planning and development of the City, the organization’s capital improvements program, and emergency operations. The new Assistant City Manager/Long Range Planner will have the incredible opportunity of making this role their own as Port Aransas reorganizes its executive structure. It will be necessary for the successful candidate to have the experience and expertise to hit the ground running as the City tackles a number of important issues.
Port Aransas is seeking a skilled, solutions-oriented, and strategy-minded leader ready to serve a remarkable city as it pursues quality growth and development balanced with community spirit and deference to its unique environment. This position requires a master’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field and five years of management experience in municipal government. Candidates should also have five years’ experience as a city manager, assistant/deputy city manager, city planner, or city development director. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the position’s responsibilities may be considered.
Port Aransas is offering a starting salary of $90,000 to $105,000 for this position, depending on qualifications and experience.
