Community Service Officers provide prisoner transport and escort to and from court and correctional facilities and provide general security throughout the court sessions. This position will also perform parking enforcement duties as well as a wide variety of police-related operational support.

The selection process will include a written exam, physical agility test, oral interview, drug screen, and extensive background checks, and fingerprints. The selection and pre-hire process will take 6-8 weeks; expected start date for this position is October 2022. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience or training in a law enforcement field. 
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to meet the city's driving standards.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Upon appointment, recruit Community Service Officers will be required to successfully complete the Department of Public Safety and Training (DPSST) Basic Corrections Academy (6 weeks) within 18 months of hire.
  • Ability to become CJIS certified. Pre-employment fingerprints need to be completed and cleared prior to start date. Testing process occurs within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to pass un-timed physical agility test.
  • Ability to pass reference checks, extensive background check, physical and drug screen. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bilingual Competency in English and any of the following: Spanish or Arabic or Korean or Vietnamese or Chinese or Russian or Japanese, including speaking, reading and writing.
