Job Description

Cherokee Water Company is a for-profit corporation whose primary asset is Lake Cherokee. Lake Cherokee’s private, residential community, created in 1948, stretches across the lake’s expansive crescent-shaped shoreline. Each of the 1,500 residential lots is assigned a “share” for the purpose of voting for the community’s board of directors and entitling the shareholder to all the benefits and amenities available. Only minutes away from Longview, Texas, and within easy reach of Shreveport, Dallas, and Houston, Lake Cherokee is an exclusive, residential community that offers private 24-hour security staff, emergency services, scenic vistas, outdoor recreation, social clubs, and family friendly events.

Cherokee Water Company serves the City of Longview, the Southwestern Electric Power Company, and Lake Cherokee Residents. It offers sale of water to the City of Longview, maintenance of water quality and associated facilities, full time security staff, onsite meeting and storage facilities, administrative services, and a monthly newsletter. The Lake Cherokee Board of Directors is the governing body of the company and retains the responsibility of formulating and adopting Cherokee Water Company policies. Each of the 12-member board is a community shareholder who works with Cherokee Water Company to maintain the quality of life the lake offers. 

The Cherokee Water Company seeks a visionary, equitable leader with savvy business sense to serve as its next General Manager. The General Manager of the Cherokee Water Company will ensure that the services and operations of the Cherokee Water Company are delivered in an efficient and effective manner. This position is responsible for implementing policy decisions made by the Board of Directors; facilitating the development and implementation of a strategic plan; administering the business affairs of the company; and overseeing the accuracy and validity of information provided to the Board of Directors. 

A bachelor’s degree in engineering, public administration, business administration, or a relevant discipline is required, as well as at least five years’ successful executive leadership experience with full budgetary responsibility for an organization similar in size to Cherokee Water Company. Candidates who have familiarity with Lake Cherokee are preferred. An advanced degree in a relevant discipline is preferred. At least 10 years of public administration or corporate management experience is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. The General Manager is required to live within 30-45 minutes from the Cherokee Water Company office.

The hiring range for this position is $120,000-125,000 a year, depending on qualifications and experience.
