Located in northeast Oklahoma, Broken Arrow is the fourth largest city in the state with a population of 116,492 people spread out over nearly 62 square miles. The City is located in Tulsa and Wagoner counties and is part of the Tulsa metropolitan area, which has a population of 1,181,634. From 2000 to 2010, U.S. Census Bureau numbers show the City grew by 32%, making it one of the fastest grow­ing incorporated municipalities in Oklahoma. Broken Arrow is also home to the third largest manu­facturing hub in the state, with many employees working in the energy sector. Residents in Broken Arrow enjoy a high quality of life characterized by low crime, high-performing schools, affordable housing, and easy access to many parks and recreational facilities.

The City of Broken Arrow is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking leader to serve as its Community Development Director. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in personnel laws, policies, and regulations; civil engineering design and practices; relevant city, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies; and the development and administration of municipal budgets. They will be up to date on modern office practices, as well as current trends and approaches in the field of urban planning and development.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to oversee the implementation of innovative solutions. They will have a successful track record in communicating complex issues to elected officials. The chosen candidate will also have documented successes in collaboration among internal departments as well as with external agencies.

A bachelor’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field, plus at least five years of related experience, is required. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, will be considered. Candidates must possess or be readily able to obtain a valid Class D Oklahoma driver’s license. Licensure as a Professional Engineer in the State of Oklahoma or national certification as an American Institute of Certified Planners, or the ability to obtain either within a period of one year, is preferred.

The annual salary range for this position is $107,888.01-$172,621.04 dependent on qualifications and experience.
