New Lenox, IL (26,780) is well known in Will County as a growing, progressive community where you can raise a family with great schools and recreational amenities.  This vibrant community is seeking a hands-on professional Social Worker who will work as a part of the Police Department in their efforts to provide high level law enforcement services to the residents and businesses of the community.  In an effort to assist those who are faced with a crisis, the community recognizes the need to offer professional help and offer pathways to assistance.  This full-time social worker will provide services to New Lenox residents who have been referred through the Police Department or Village. These services will include advocacy, clinical assessments, crisis intervention, referrals, youth services, community programming and training along with short term counseling for residents and victims. The Social Worker reports to the Deputy Chief-Administration.

 

The new Social Worker will have the following qualifications and traits:

 

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or Counseling, or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of related experience, preferably in a law enforcement agency or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licensed Social Worker (LSW or LCSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC or LCPC) or related Licensure.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and local laws related to the field of mental health, including domestic violence, mental health and disabilities, the confidentiality code, the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and the Elderly Abuse and Neglect Act. Have a high sense of professional ethics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the court system as it relates to domestic violence and admissions for psychiatric assessments. An understanding of the juvenile station adjustment process.
  • The ability and aptitude to work in a paramilitary environment alongside police officers and a diverse community.
  • An ability to clinically work with individuals, or groups providing crisis intervention, diagnostic group and short-term treatment services.
  • The Social Worker must demonstrate the ability to problem-solve and work creatively to address social and mental health challenges within the community.
  • Demonstrate empathy and resilience when dealing with victims and their families is crisis intervention, support and referrals.
  • Demonstrate a welcoming, approachable style; be flexible and nimble in task completion; enjoy camaraderie.
  • Skill with communicating complex, multi-layered issues to individuals and groups in writing and through presentations.
  • Helpful to have experience writing and securing and administering grants.
  • English/Spanish bilingual fluency preferred but not required.

 

Salary for this position is commensurate with education and experience. The minimum of the range is $65,996.
