Project Engineer Salary Range:  $82,499 - $108,563 annually
Engineering Associate Salary Range: $76,275.00 - $100,373.00  annually
Placement on range determined by relevant experience presented in application materials
Full-time, plus full benefits package.

About this opportunity
Public Works is currently offering two (2) full-time positions in the Transportation Division for engineers looking to expand their knowledge and grow their career with a dynamic team. One position will be embedded in the Traffic Engineering Section, and the other in the Roadway Engineering Section. 
 
These positions may be filled with a licensed engineer (i.e., Project Engineer), or candidates with an ability to obtain engineering licensure in the future (i.e., Engineering Associate).
 

Project Engineer  Engineering Associate 
  • Oregon Professional Engineer License
  • 4 Years of engineering, design, project management experience or surveying
  • Full-Time, Exempt
  • Oregon Fundamentals of Engineering Certification
  • 2 Years of engineering experience 
  • Full-Time, Non-Exempt

 
 
Traffic Engineering 
The principal function of the Project Engineer or Engineering Associate is to perform specialized engineering activities in support of the city’s traffic systems including streetlights, signals, ITS, signs, pavement markings, traffic control, parking, traffic counts, Safe-Routes-to-Schools, fiber, 5G implementation, and plan review. Key functions of this position include addressing community questions and concerns, collaborating across disciplines in Public Works and the City, developing/updating standards, reviewing plans, preparing plans and reports, and overseeing consultant contracts.  If appointed as a Project Engineer, act as lead engineer on projects. 
 
 
Roadway Engineering 
The principal function of the Project Engineer or Engineering Associate is to perform specialized engineering activities in support of the City’s pavement and sidewalk monitoring, repair, and maintenance, street trees maintenance in support of the Tree City USA certification, right-of-way management and inspections, and the city’s Pavement Management Program. The primary responsibilities of this position are to prepare and review engineering plans for roadway and sidewalk maintenance and infrastructure improvements, ensure compliance with code requirements, and develop engineering calculations, plans and specifications. If appointed as a Project Engineer, act as lead engineer on projects.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review and approve public improvement plans, specifications, construction details 
  • Conduct traffic studies and investigations
  • Plan and coordinate of all permitting related to the construction of or impacts to traffic signals, street lighting, street signs and pavement markings.
  • Coordinate records management/asset management programs for traffic signals, street lighting, street signs and pavement markings.
  • Provide technical support and assistance related to traffic signals, street lighting, street signs and pavement markings.
  • Develop and review of engineering plan sets and specifications.
  • Develop and maintenance of construction standards and procedures.  
  • Inventory and assessment of traffic public infrastructure assets.
  • Represent the City at public and neighborhood meetings regarding transportation issues 
  • Collaborate with a large network of professionals including consultants and contractors, finance personnel, peer engineering managers, project managers and coordinators, and maintenance personnel.


Acceptable Experience and Training
 
Project Engineer
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; and 4 years of civil engineering design, project management or surveying experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. 
 
Engineering Associate 
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and 2 years of engineering experience including lead worker responsibilities; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. 
 
A minimum of two years of experience in traffic engineering, transportation engineering or closely related work including some supervisory experience.
 
Licensing/Certifications

  • Project Engineer - State Registration as a Professional Engineer in Oregon 
  • Engineering Associate - Oregon Fundamentals of Engineering Certification and ability to obtain Professional Engineer License in the future.
  • Possession of a valid State Driver’s License and safe driving record.
  • Preference for Spanish-bilingual speaking candidates**
