Job Description

The City of Naperville’s IT Department is looking for a Solutions Project Manager to plan, manage and implement technology solutions for the Public Safety departments as well as define and translate customer/user requirements into effective solutions.

Naperville’s IT and Public Safety Departments are undergoing a transformation to upgrade to the next generation of products for some of their legacy technology, including their Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management System (RMS) and other interfacing applications.  Many of these applications will reside in cloud-centric or virtualized environments and the city is looking for an ecosystem that allows seamless integration for its end users.

As part of the Public Safety IT team, the Solution Project Manager will provide project leadership in driving projects to conclusion.  In addition, post-implementation, the Solution Project Manager will support, maintain, and drive upgrades to strategic business system platforms using the latest in cloud and hybrid platforms.

The Solutions Project Manager will be responsible for managing the development and deployment of integrated solutions aimed at modernizing, consolidating, and coordinating applications across the Public Safety eco-system.  Part of the role is determining how existing applications, legacy systems, databases, web interfaces, and/or hardware logic which may be currently operating on multiple platforms, work together to meet the new and emerging business requirements. The role is expected to provide expertise in leading and participating in the technical architecture planning, data architecture design, project execution, user acceptance testing, and deployment of products and services.

Duties

The Solutions Project Manager will drive successful solution implementations that meet end user and organizational needs.  The Solution Project Manager will drive both solution architecture and project implementations in Public Safety.  The position will drive success of assigned projects as well as understand and gather project architecture, goals, and user business requirements by collaborating with project teams including vendors.  This position will also be responsible for supporting and maintaining key application solutions and platforms post-implementation.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a very strong technical background along with excellent communication, collaboration, project planning and management skills, and have the ability to understand the ‘big picture’ as well as manage day-to-day tasks.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/MIS, Computer Engineering or related field
  • At least five years of experience working with advanced information systems applications, including two years of significant business analysis and project management experience.
