This is responsible municipal law enforcement and investigative work in the protection of life and
property and the resolution of criminal cases.
Work requires the use of seasoned judgment in the development of strategies to ensure the provision of effective investigative services. Work is performed with considerable independence and in accordance with applicable laws, ordinances, and regulations under the general supervision of a superior. Work is reviewed and evaluated through observation, discussions, and reports by the Investigations Sergeant for results obtained.
Other Job Functions: May be required to supplement full-time patrol force as needed.
• Graduate of the State of Illinois basic recruit academy and meets requirements for Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board for Certified Police Officer •Graduation from high school or equivalent, supplemented by continuing education in criminal justice or a related field with an associate degree in criminal justice preferred. •Considerable experience (3-6 years) as a patrol officer; experience as a detective; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job functions.
• Certification as a police officer by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. • Maintain CPR certification. • Pass the firearms Course and qualify annually or as determined by the Department. • Possession of a valid Class D Illinois driver’s license.
• Primarily day shift, schedule subject to change. May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays • Full uniforms, ballistic vest and duty weapon are supplied.
