This position purchases a wide variety of parts, materials, and services and determines the parts and materials that are included in inventory to support operations of the inventory and purchasing systems.
Duties & Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL:
* Confers with requests on specifications, quantity, and delivery requirements and reviews and edits requisitions. Recommends substitutions to reduce cost or improve delivery.
* Solicits and analyzes quotes/bids and awards purchase orders/contracts, complying with all required policies and procedures and accepted trade practices. Reviews and approves purchases as directed.
* Chooses inventory materials to support operations and selects the appropriate quantity, delivery date and location for the restock of inventory items.
* Initiates shop orders for fabricated or rebuilt parts and reviews and approves bills of materials for implementation.
* Researches and selects initial inventory levels to support new equipment and procedures and analyzes inventory for obsolete and surplus items. Takes appropriate action with obsolete and surplus items, which includes arranging and overseeing auctions and other methods of sale/disposal

* All other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate Degree in Business, Purchasing or a related field preferred.
* A minimum of five years of experience in purchasing, inventory control or materials planning, consisting of handling large volume inventory control and purchase actions for maintenance, repair, and operations items. Maximus and Oracle Purchasing experience preferred.
* Proficiency in vehicle and facilities parts, materials and related shop supplies, and sources of supply.
* Proficient with computerized inventory or purchasing systems.
* Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
* Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
* Basic math skills
* Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details.
* Ability to research, analyze and evaluate information.
* Ability to use sound judgment and to maintain confidentiality.
