Job Description

Delaware County (pop. 565,328) is a dynamic, fast-growth community located southwest of Philadelphia in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The county is home to renowned educational institutions including Villanova University, Haverford College, Swarthmore College, and the Penn State Brandywine Campus; medical facilities; and manufacturers of innovative technology such as the Boeing Vertol V-22.

The County is seeking an Executive Director to be responsible for the day-to-day management of the County government which includes approximately 50 departments, about half of which report directly to the Executive Director. The remaining department directors report directly to the County Council; however, the day-to-day functions remain with the Executive Director.

Delaware County offers a competitive total rewards package, which includes a base salary of up to $200,000 depending on qualifications and a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical insurance (PPO, HMO, and HSA – HDHP), dental (PPO and DMO), vision, basic life insurance/AD&D, disability insurance, flexible spending account, employee assistance program, health and wellness programs, voluntary benefits (accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity, identity theft, and pet insurance) and membership into the Delaware County Employees Retirement System. This position requires a master’s degree from an accredited college or university and seven years of progressive experience in an executive/senior administrative position, five of which shall be in management and public administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The Executive Director must reside within the Delaware County limits or be willing to establish residency within the county limits within six months of employment.
