Job Description

High Point is North Carolina’s ninth largest city. It’s situated primarily in the southwest corner of Guilford County, with portions also in Davidson, Forsyth, and Randolph counties — the state’s only City in four counties. The estimated population is 117,000, in a metropolitan area of 555,000 and a larger Piedmont Triad region of 1.6 million people. High Point’s residents enjoy a wide variety of activities on a year-round basis due largely to a mild climate and an abundance of natural recreation amenities.

The City of High Point’s Information Technology Services (ITS) Department is composed of three major groups providing multifaceted service to internal users and public entities: the Information Technology Service Division, Radio Service Division, and 911 Division. Its goal is to use a high degree of innovative thinking to provide the highest level of service.

The City of High Point seeks an innovative, confident leader and strategic thinker to serve as its next IT Services Director. Under the general direction of the Assistant City Manager, the IT Services Director oversees all strategic aspects of the City’s IT Services Department. This includes administration of its computers, servers, networks, and infrastructure; geographic information systems administration; systems and applications development; cybersecurity administration and strategic operations; radio communications operations; and 911 communications operations. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong, broad IT foundation and stay informed on emerging technology.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information science, information security, business administration, or a related field, plus 10+ years of IT operations experience supervising highly technical teams tasked with overseeing all major aspects of largescale, mission-critical technological projects. At least five years of experience developing and managing organizational budgets is required. A combination of education and experience that provides an equivalent level of knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

The salary for this position ranges from $99,555 - $160,000 dependent on qualifications and experience.
