The City of Aspen is Hiring for a Deputy Finance Director.

About the Finance Department:
The City of Aspen Finance Department is responsible for administering all financial record keeping and reporting functions for the City of Aspen. Several of the functions handled by Finance include:
The Deputy Finance Director is responsible for the establishment, maintenance, and internal control of all accounting policies and procedures, internal and external financial reporting, annual financial audit and accounting software administration and training, general cashiering functions and treasury operations, in part and by extension of assigned staff and consistent with the organization’s values and mission statement. Additional responsibilities include complimentary oversight around debt service, investments, procurement, and team leadership.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional interpersonal, public speaking, active listening, and team building skills. Innovative, communicative, problem solvers that exhibit a combination of highly developed technical and analytical abilities are encouraged to apply. A financial mindset, strong attention to detail, and relevant knowledge of strategic leadership management principles is needed to successfully execute job functions.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experience in professional financial management and analysis, municipal finance, and governmental accounting; must have a minimum of five years of supervisory experience.
Technical Knowledge: Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Must have experience with modern sophisticated integrated accounting software systems.
Licenses & Certifications: Certification in Public Accounting (CPA) required. Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date. Must complete Incident Command System (ICS) training levels 100 and 200 within the first six months of start date.
Preferred Candidate: Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Public Administration preferred.
NOTE: This position requires a Criminal Background Check upon hire. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a Criminal Background Check.
NOTE: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required abilities, knowledge and skills as determined by the City of Aspen may be substituted for the requirements above.
