About the Finance Department:
The City of Aspen Finance Department is responsible for administering all financial record keeping and reporting functions for the City of Aspen. Several of the functions handled by Finance include:
This position performs professional level accounting functions for the City of Aspen, which may include month-end and year-end reconciliations, recurring journal entry posting, purchasing card program and expense report management, cash reconciliations and more. Additionally, this position will participate in the annual financial audit and reporting for citywide financials. See levels for accounting activities and minimum qualifications. The Finance Department’s accounting division provides the opportunity for advancement in professional accounting from Accountant I through Senior Level Accountant, and placement depends on directly related experience.

Hiring Salary Insights:
Salaries are dependent on applicant skills and past work experience. All City of Aspen positions are placed into salary bands which are evaluated periodically to reflect market conditions, changes in responsibility and internal equity. Hiring ranges for the offered positions are as follows:
Computer Skills : Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Licenses & Certifications : Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within 30 days of start date.
Preferred Candidate: Certificate in Public Accounting (CPA) designation is highly desirable for Accountant II level position. Familiarity with Oracle Cloud ERP is a plus. Previous municipal government accounting desired.
