Our ideal candidate
You are happiest working within a diverse community and delivering exceptional customer service. You are committed to promoting inclusive and accessible library spaces. You embrace innovative processes and technologies that enhance library services and operations. Learning new things excites you and you don’t let obstacles get in the way of finding solutions to a problem. You are an effective communicator and enjoy collaborating with others. You are willing to jump in where needed to support and serve the community.
 What you'll be doing

  • Your main job is providing customer service to library patrons in person, over the phone, and online—helping people find library materials, navigate databases, download e-books, or use library computers and software.
  • You’ll become a patron account expert—from making new library cards to resolving questions about missing items, you’ll learn library policies and procedures, how to apply them, and most importantly how to explain them to patrons in a way that empowers them as library users.
  • Learning is continuous when you serve the public. Training and growth opportunities are regularly offered.
  • Pitching in to keep the library tidy and making sure materials flow smoothly - everyone helps shelve books when needed, cleans up the scattered toys in the children’s room, and restocks book displays.
  • You may have some programming responsibilities working with all age groups - this could mean presenting a storytime, leading a book group, or assisting with an outreach event in the community.
  • Each day is a little different when it comes to working with the public. This job demands adaptability, empathy, and resiliency. Your work makes a huge impact on our community!
  • The role will continue to develop as the organizational structure of the library aligns to meet the service needs of our community.
