See the essential duties and responsibilities below. We will be selecting applicants for these positions.

 

Utility Systems Worker I  $15.08-$15.83

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of routine to skilled work to inspect, install, maintain, and repair valves, water distribution pipelines and related appurtenances; inspects and tests lines in the distribution system; threads and fits pipes
  • Inspects water services for compliance with established codes and/or damaged or worn parts, and makes repairs as necessary; performs preventative maintenance adjustments.
  • Performs water valve and hydrant maintenance
  • Turns on and off main line valves, hydrants, and fire service lines.
  • Reports water service defects and public safety hazards, including providing exception list information and reporting hazards to supervisors.
  • Turns water service on or off
  • Uses backhoe to begin trenches or make minor excavations, places shoring where required, and makes necessary installations and repairs to distribution and collection pipelines.
  • Operates and maintains specialized vehicles and light, medium, and heavy duty equipment and trucks appropriate for the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City's infrastructure.
  • Performs safety and service inspections of assigned trucks and equipment; steam cleans, washes, and fuels equipment; assists in lubrication and maintenance of equipment.
  • Installs street barricades and cones and controls traffic around work sites to ensure safe conditions for the general public and City workers.
  • Inspects and tests lines in the collection system visually or using closed-circuit television devices and other specialized testing equipment.
  • Cleans the collection system using appropriate rodding or high velocity cleaner equipment.
  • Inspects and maintains wastewater lines and manholes to ensure compliance with established codes.
  • Operates and maintains the City's close circuit television system and equipment used to monitor and prevent problems in the wastewater system.
  • Installs and maintains wastewater manholes and makes minor repairs as directed.
  • Raises, sets and seals valves and manholes as required.
  • Locates and marks underground utilities.
  • Performs a variety of routine carpentry, painting, masonry, and electrical work; forms, pours, and finishes concrete; erects chain link and wooden fences; cleans and maintains grounds; landscaping and job site restoration.
  • Assists in special projects as assigned,
  • Reads and interprets maps, blueprints, sketches, and diagrams in the performance of the work.
  • Observes safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required
  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools and equipment related to work assignment as instructed.
  • Maintains work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the workday.
  • Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.
  • Answers inquiries from citizens regarding work performed; responds to complaints and answers questions from public or escalates to supervisor, as necessary.
  • Responds to operations, maintenance, and repair emergency situations as required.
  • Maintains accurate records of work performed; completes reports as necessary.
  • May assist other maintenance crews in emergency or relief situations.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervision/management.

Education/Experience/Certification Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Class D Water License / Class I Wastewater Collections license(s) required within 18 months of employment
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License required within 1 year of employment
  • Must be able to respond within 1 hour to emergency calls
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Required to perform after hours duties
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.

 

Utility Systems Worker II  $17.46-$18.33

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides technical and functional direction to assigned line maintenance staff; reviews and controls quality of work; participates in performing line maintenance work. 
  • Plans, schedules, prioritizes, and assigns line maintenance and repair work and assignments in consultation with the Line Maintenance III; communicates status of assignments to appropriate personnel, working cooperatively to schedule assignments in accordance with established priorities and special operational priorities; instructs staff in work procedures. 
  • Trains employees in work methods, use of tools and equipment, and relevant safety precautions.
  • Assists in developing work plans, procedures, and schedules.
  • Estimates time, materials, and equipment required for assigned jobs; orders supplies and equipment for work projects; keeps required labor, equipment, and material records and submits reports as directed
  • Conducts pre-acceptance construction walkthroughs and analysis

Utility Systems Worker III  $20.21-$21.22

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides technical and functional direction to assigned line maintenance staff; reviews and controls quality of work; assists in completing employee evaluations; participates in performing line maintenance work
  • Coordinates with contractors and developers regarding shut-downs, tie-ins, and pressure tests
  • Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of assigned staff in line maintenance
  • Trains staff in work and safety procedures and in the operation and use of equipment and supplies; implements procedures and standards.
  • Provides input on employee performance evaluations; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline procedures; assists in selection and promotion.
  • Monitors operations and activities of line maintenance; recommends improvements and modifications and prepares various reports; recommends and assists in the implementation of goals and objectives; implements policies and procedures.
  • Determines and recommends equipment, materials, and staffing needs for assigned maintenance projects; participates in the annual budget preparation; prepares detailed cost estimates with appropriate justifications, as required; maintains a variety of records and prepares routine reports of work performance. 
  • Monitors and controls supplies and equipment; orders supplies and tools as necessary; prepares documents for equipment procurement; participates in informal bid processes for vendor selection.
  • Coordinates with and oversees contractors in providing water distribution maintenance, wastewater collection maintenance and repair services.
  • Participates in the administration of preventive maintenance, in-service training, and safety programs; develops safety programs that meet Federal and State standards; ensures compliance with safety procedures.
  • Performs operations, maintenance, and repair duties in the area of work assigned 
  • Observes safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.
  • Maintains logs and records of work performed; prepares periodic reports.
  • Answers questions and provides information to the public; investigates complaints; recommends corrective actions to resolve issues.

  • May act as the Line Maintenance Foreman in his/her absence.
