Job Description

Hidden Creek Community Center, the City of Hillsboro’s newest Parks & Recreation facility, is searching for an Adaptive & Inclusive Recreation Lead Instructor! This is a great opportunity to be part of meaningful programming and activities that include participants from all backgrounds and abilities. This position offers the ability to create programs and activities from start to finish and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with participants.  

This role will support all adaptive recreation programs and inclusion supports provided by Hillsboro Parks & Recreation. This includes developing and facilitating new class opportunities, connecting with participants to provide a tailored classroom experience, and collaborating within Hillsboro Parks & Recreation to increase accessibility and inclusion of people experiencing disability. 
This role supports inclusion throughout the department by working directly with participants or guardians to ensure they have tools and resources to be successful in classes.

Upcoming Projects:

  • Developing and executing adaptive recreation programs for people of all ages experiencing disability;
  • Complete outreach and engagement for Hillsboro Parks & Recreation;
  • Support inclusion request process, including providing 1:1 support to participants in Hillsboro Parks & Recreation programs.
Our Ideal Candidate:
  • Demonstrated experience working with people experiencing disability. Background in education, adaptive recreation, inclusion, or therapeutic recreation;
  • Strong communication and research skills. Strong people and relationship building skills; Ability to problem solve; Ability to work individually and on a team.; Self directed and motivated;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office suite, social media marketing, and design using Canva. 
  • Ability to speak Spanish preferred but not required;
  • Ability to speak a secondary language allowing for connection with participants/guardians who experience disability who are non-English speakers.

Examples of Essential Work

  • Support Inclusion Requests from participants including developing support plans and providing accommodations;
  • Provide 1:1 support as requested for participants experiencing disability;
  • Develop and lead adaptive recreation programming;
  • Support outreach and marketing for adaptive recreation programs;
  • Develop and deliver trainings around adaptive recreation and inclusion supports for staff at all levels in the Hillsboro Parks & Recreation department.

Acceptable Experience and Training

  • High School Diploma or GED; and
  • Some experience in a child development, pre-school, therapeutic recreation, related field; or, any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

  • Ability to attend work on a regular, predictable basis as scheduled.

Additional Information

Other Requirements

  • CPR/Firs Aid/AED certified within 6 months of hire

    Safety sensitive positions or positions that work with children must submit to a drug test
